Blueberry Chia Jam

Who doesn’t love the classic PB & J?! And for those of you old enough to remember, what about the old school, classic track by Newcleus, Jam On It ;)?! Both favorites of mine and I can’t help but to get that track in my head when making this Blueberry Chia Jam!            You know, the one that goes

“Jam on it, jam on it, j-j-j-jam on it!” 😀

With those classics as inspiration it was time to remix basic jam with some healthier, protein packed and still sweetly satisfying ingredients! I’ve seen a few variations of this recipe circulate the web and came up with one that is highly favored in our home. You can use what ever type of berries or berries blend you want or have on hand- fresh or frozen. We just tend to always have a big bag of organic blueberries in our freezer so that was my go to. Plus, I think the liquid leftover from them thawing added to the ideal consistency.

Here’s my recipe:

  • 1 cup frozen blueberries (thawed)
  • 3 &1/2 Tablespoons Chia Seeds
  • 1/4 cup pure, raw honey or maple syrup (or a blend of both- that’s what I used)


Thaw the frozen blueberries. Place the blueberries in a blender along with the leftover liquid and the honey/ maple syrup. Blend until pureed. Pour the puree into a medium sized bowl, add the chia seeds and stir with a fork until well combined. Allow the chia and puree blend to chill in the fridge for at least four hours. Over this time, the chia seeds will soak up the puree and create a jam like consistency. Once congealed, transfer into a covered container or jar and store in the fridge for up to one- two weeks.


  • on a classic Peanut Butter (or almond butter/similar) Sandwich
  • in oatmeal/ breakfast bowls
  • on toast, waffles or pancakes
  • in smoothies
  • in parfaits
  • on frozen yogurt, (raw) banana ice cream, or traditional ice cream
  • as cake or pastry filling
  • as the base for fruit leather if you have a food dehydrator (simply smooth the mixture onto a Teflex sheet or parchment paper, place on dehydrator trays and dry until solidified- 8-24 hours)

Warrior Sandwich

Here’s my brother’s creation he calls, “The Warrior Sandwich” made with vegan Quinoa bread, Blueberry Chia Jam, crunchy peanut butter, bananas and a drizzle of raw/pure honey. It’s loaded with plant based protein and a little extra sweetness 🙂
